Proxy SwitchyOmega in four fields and one easily missed button
Updated:
To add a proxy in SwitchyOmega, open Options, edit the proxy profile, set Protocol to HTTP, enter server and port, store the login behind the lock icon, then press Apply changes. That last button is where most setups go wrong. The extension works in Chrome, Brave and Edge and only changes the route of the browser profile it is installed in.
Protocol: HTTP | Server: ip | Port: port | Lock: user / passSwitchyOmega or ZeroOmega?
The original Proxy SwitchyOmega is a Manifest V2 extension, and newer Chrome versions are phasing those out. ZeroOmega is its Manifest V3 continuation with the same screens and the same settings, so everything below applies to both. If neither installs on your browser, FoxyProxy takes the same ProxyV4 line.
Filling the proxy profile
| Column in Options | Enter | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Protocol | HTTP | This one option serves both http and https sites |
| Server | The proxy ip only | No http:// prefix and no port in this box |
| Port | The port number | Exactly as shown in your dashboard |
| Lock icon | user and pass | Without it, the browser asks for the login in a pop-up |
Why the IP did not change
Two separate actions are needed, and skipping either one leaves you on your own address. First, Apply changes in the left sidebar of Options writes the profile; until you press it, your edits exist only on screen. Second, the toolbar icon decides which profile is active. If it still says [Direct], traffic goes straight out. Click the icon and choose proxy.
Then open My IP in a new tab. It should show the proxy address and the country you bought. Running the WebRTC leak test as well is worthwhile, because a browser extension does not necessarily control what WebRTC reveals.
Lightweight multi-account browsing
Each Chrome user profile has its own extensions and cookies. Create one Chrome profile per account, install SwitchyOmega in each, and point each at a different static IP. You get separate cookies and separate addresses without an antidetect browser, although the browser fingerprint stays your own. Because ProxyV4 IPs are single-tenant and stay the same while active, each Chrome profile keeps a stable address.
Auto Switch for mixed browsing
- Create an Auto Switch profile and add a condition such as
*.amazon.comthat points to a US proxy profile. - Leave the default rule on
[Direct], so local sites and everything else use your normal line. - Select the Auto Switch profile from the toolbar icon, not the proxy profile, for the rules to take effect.
- Still seeing a login box or failures? Test the line in the proxy checker; a 407 is covered in the 407 guide.

Frequently asked questions
I filled in SwitchyOmega but my IP is the same. What did I miss?
Either Apply changes was not pressed in Options, or the toolbar icon is still on [Direct]. Do both, then reload My IP.
Chrome disabled SwitchyOmega. What now?
Install ZeroOmega, the Manifest V3 build with the same settings, or use FoxyProxy. The proxy values do not change.
Does SwitchyOmega proxy other apps on my computer?
No. It routes only the browser profile where it is installed and active.
Why does a login pop-up appear on every site?
The username and password were not saved under the lock icon. Enter them there and press Apply changes.
