Your proxy is set but the IP stays the same: where traffic slips past

Updated:

When your proxy IP is not changing, pages still load and IP checkers simply keep showing your provider's address. No error appears because nothing is technically broken: the traffic you are looking at is not going through the proxy, or the checking site sees your IP by another route. A proxy that is actually down gives you errors, not your own IP.

Prove whether the proxy works, outside the browser

Take the browser out of the equation first. Run curl -s https://proxyv4.com/api/my-ip with no proxy, then curl -s -x http://user123:[email protected]:8080 https://proxyv4.com/api/my-ip with your own proxy values, and compare the ip field. If the two results differ, the proxy is doing its job and the fault is in how your browser, app or device uses it.

No terminal handy? Put the line into the proxy checker, which shows the proxy's exit IP. Then open what is my IP inside the exact browser, profile or phone you set up and see whether the two match.

Six places traffic bypasses the proxy

SituationWhat is happening
Checking in the wrong windowThe proxy lives in an antidetect profile or in Firefox, but the IP checker is open in regular Chrome or Edge.
Phone on mobile dataiPhone and Android tie a proxy to one Wi-Fi network. Mobile data goes out directly.
App ignores system settingsA Windows or Wi-Fi proxy is only a suggestion; some apps open their own connections.
VPN or extension in chargeAn active VPN or a Chrome proxy extension decides the route, not the setting you just changed.
Profile not saved, old tabAn antidetect profile edited but not saved keeps the old proxy; tabs opened before the change can reuse old connections.
WebRTC leakThe main IP did change, but the checking page also gathers an address over WebRTC and displays your real one.

Fixes for each setup

  • Chrome on Windows: make sure Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy was actually saved, turn off proxy extensions and VPNs, then quit Chrome completely and start it again.
  • Antidetect browsers: save the profile, close its window and relaunch it. The GenLogin proxy setup page shows where the fields live.
  • iPhone: a proxy set in Settings > Wi-Fi > (i) > Configure Proxy applies to that Wi-Fi alone. Switch off mobile data while you test; see iPhone proxy setup.
  • Android: the proxy is part of each Wi-Fi network's settings, so moving to a different network leaves it behind.
  • Scripts: Python requests only uses a proxy when you pass proxies. If you depend on environment variables instead, define both HTTP_PROXY and HTTPS_PROXY.

The IP is supposed to stay the same

If what you expected was a new IP on every request, note that ProxyV4 proxies are static: each line keeps one private address for the whole rental, and renewing keeps that same address. That stability is what keeps account history consistent. To use a different IP, switch to another line from your order or add more IPs. If the address did change but the country looks wrong, check it in the IP lookup tool and run the WebRTC leak test.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Note the proxy's exit IP

Paste the proxy line into the proxy checker and write down the IP it reports.

  2. 2

Check from inside the configured app

Load my IP in the same browser, profile or phone that holds the proxy setting.

  3. 3

    Remove anything that overrides it

Turn off VPNs, proxy extensions and mobile data, then close and reopen the browser.

  4. 4

    Look for a WebRTC leak

Run the WebRTC leak test. If your own IP appears, change the WebRTC setting in the browser or profile.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my proxy IP always the same?

It is a static proxy. Each line holds one fixed IP until it expires, which keeps logged-in accounts stable. Use another line when you want a different IP.

An IP checker shows the proxy IP and my real IP together.

That is almost always WebRTC. Antidetect browsers have a WebRTC replace option; normal browsers need a setting change or an extension.

Windows uses the proxy, but one app still shows my real IP.

That app probably does not read the system proxy. A per-app tool such as Proxifier can force it through.

The IP changed, but the country is not the one I ordered.

Location databases do not all update at the same time. Look the IP up again with the IP lookup tool; if it still disagrees with your order, open a support ticket.

Need another address?

Add ProxyV4 static proxies by country, one private IP per line, so each account gets its own.
