Proxifier for programs that have no proxy setting of their own
Updated:
Proxifier setup comes down to two dialogs: Proxy Servers, where you add the IP and port with protocol HTTPS and authentication on, and Proxification Rules, where you tell Proxifier which program file should use it. Get the protocol right and the rest is routine. Get it wrong and the built-in check fails before any app is involved.
Address: ip | Port: port | Protocol: HTTPS | Auth: user / passThe case for Proxifier
Browsers and antidetect browsers have proxy fields. Plenty of desktop software does not: Zalo PC, Android emulators, game launchers, bots and in-house automation tools that simply use the computer's normal connection. Proxifier sits between those programs and the network and pushes their TCP connections through a proxy without the program noticing.
It is also selective. One emulator can leave through a Japan proxy while updates, calls and streaming on the same computer stay on your own line. That selectivity is the main reason to choose it over a system-wide setting such as the Windows proxy settings.
HTTPS, not HTTP: what the label means
Proxifier's naming trips people up. Its plain HTTP option is meant for ordinary port-80 web requests. Its HTTPS option uses the HTTP CONNECT method to tunnel any TCP connection on any port, which is what a desktop program needs. ProxyV4 private IPv4 and static ISP proxies support HTTP CONNECT, so choose HTTPS even though your order says HTTP(S).
| Proxy Servers dialog | Enter | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Address / Port | The ip and port from your line | Where Proxifier connects |
| Protocol | HTTPS | Turns on CONNECT tunnelling for arbitrary TCP |
| Authentication | Enable, then user and pass | Every outgoing connection logs in automatically |
Rules: first match wins
A server on its own changes nothing. Open Profile > Proxification Rules..., press Add..., browse to the program file (for example Zalo.exe, dnplayer.exe or chrome.exe), leave target hosts as any, and set Action to the proxy you just added.
Proxifier reads the list top to bottom and applies the first rule that fits, so your app rule must sit above Default. Keep Localhost on Direct and set Default to Direct unless you truly want every program on the proxy. Pushing the whole machine through one IP is rarely the goal, slows everything down, and can loop with VPN or other proxy software.
Do not forget DNS
Even with the connection proxied, Windows or macOS may still look up host names through your own provider, which reveals where you are. Under Profile > Name Resolution, turn on Resolve hostnames through proxy. After that, the lookup and the connection both originate from the proxy IP.
Reading the Proxifier log
| Log or symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| 407 in the log | Credentials refused | Re-enter user and pass in the server entry and check Authentication is enabled |
| Connections fail or time out | Wrong address or port, a SOCKS protocol chosen, or the order expired | Use Check in Proxy Servers to test the server alone |
| App still on your real IP | Rule below Default, misspelled file name, or an unlisted helper process | Move the rule up and add the helper executable too |
| Location looks wrong | DNS resolved locally | Enable remote name resolution, then test with the proxy checker |
What Proxifier will not carry
Proxifier intercepts TCP only, and an HTTP proxy does not carry UDP. Games and calling apps that send voice or match traffic over UDP will still send that part direct; see gaming. To confirm what does go through the proxy, point a proxied browser at My IP, or watch the Proxifier connection list while the app runs. If a problem persists, open a ticket from the dashboard.
Step by step
- 1
Add a proxy server
In Proxifier open Profile > Proxy Servers... and click Add....
- 2
Choose HTTPS and enable authentication
Enter the ProxyV4 IP and port, select HTTPS, tick Enable under Authentication and fill in username and password.
- 3
Press Check
Click Check; when
Testing Passed — Proxy is ready to work with Proxifier!shows in green, press OK. - 4
Write the app rule
In Profile > Proxification Rules... add a rule for the program file, point it at the proxy, and keep it above Default.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Proxifier's Check fail in red?
Most often the protocol is SOCKS Version 5 or plain HTTP instead of HTTPS. Switch it, then confirm the credentials in the proxy checker.
How do I proxy one app and leave Windows alone?
Set the Default rule to Direct, then add a rule for the target program pointing at the proxy, above Default.
Can different apps use different proxies?
Yes. Add each proxy under Proxy Servers and write one rule per program, each pointing to its own proxy.
Does Proxifier tunnel UDP?
No. It handles TCP connections only.
My whole computer got slow after installing Proxifier. Why?
The Default rule probably points to the proxy, so every program uses it. Set Default back to Direct.
Is Proxifier free?
It is paid software with a trial period. Check the developer's site for current licence terms.
