Adding a Private HTTP Proxy Inside the Telegram App

A Telegram proxy is set inside the app itself, so it changes Telegram's IP and leaves your browser and every other program alone. Telegram on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android has a built-in proxy list where you can store several ProxyV4 proxies and switch with one tap. Pick HTTP as the type, because that is how paid proxies here authenticate.

Telegram offers three proxy types. Only one matches a paid private proxy:

Calls can bypass the proxy
Messages travel through the proxy, but Telegram voice and video calls try a direct peer-to-peer UDP connection first. That hands the other caller your real IP even while the shield icon says you are proxied. Set Settings → Privacy and Security → Calls → Peer-to-Peer to Never, or to My Contacts if you only want to hide it from strangers.
Many accounts on one computer
Each portable Telegram Desktop folder keeps its own connection settings, so you can run several copies side by side, each with its own proxy. Alternatively, open Telegram Web inside antidetect browser profiles such as GenLogin, GoLogin or AdsPower, one IP per profile. Reading Telegram's status and fixing failures
Right after you save, Telegram tests the proxy and shows its state next to the entry, for example 'connected' with a ping in milliseconds. 'Unavailable' or an endless 'connecting' means something is off:
- Wrong type: SOCKS5 or MTProto was selected. Change it to HTTP.
- Host, port or login typo: compare each field with Orders; a password with a trailing space is a common cause. See 407 Proxy Authentication Required.
- Expired order or blocked port on your network: check the line with the proxy checker and the port checker, then see proxy timeout.

Open the proxy settings
Telegram Desktop: Settings → Advanced → Connection type → Use custom proxy. iOS and Android: Settings → Data and Storage → Proxy → Add Proxy.

Choose HTTP and enter the address
Select 'HTTP' as the type, then put the proxy IP in 'Hostname' (or Server) and the port in 'Port'.

Add the credentials
Type the proxy username and password in the credentials fields and tap or click 'Save'.

Confirm it is online
Wait for the entry to show 'connected' with a ping time, and look for the shield icon in the app header.

Stop the call leak
Open Settings → Privacy and Security → Calls and set Peer-to-Peer to Never or My Contacts.
